Prof. Dr. Ashokkumar Veeramuthu earned his Ph.D. from the University of Madras, Chennai, India, in 2013. During this period, he was honored with an Indo-Australian fellowship, which led to his role as a visiting scientist at Adelaide University, Australia. Currently serving as Professor & Head at the Center for Waste Management and Renewable Energy within Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Saveetha University, Chennai, India, Dr. Ashokkumar is a Visiting Professor at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. Previously, he worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist in Microalgal Biorefinery at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University Technology Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia, and as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. His international exposure includes being a visiting scientist at European Universities under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Fellowship scheme.
With over 15 years of research experience in Energy and Environment, Dr. Ashok has contributed significantly to both academic and industrial fields. His past roles include working as a Scientist at Reliance Industries Pvt., Ltd., Mumbai, specifically in the Biorefinery for biofuels and bioproducts division. His expertise covers a broad spectrum, including value-added bioproducts, biomass thermochemical techniques, torrefaction, biochar synthesis, bio-jet fuels, and metallic iron production. Dr. Ashok also specializes in biofuels, biorefinery, wastewater treatment using microalgae, solid waste to valuables, and CO2 sequestration. Acknowledging his expertise, Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier recognized Dr. Ashokkumar as one of the World's Top 2% Scientists. Currently, he supervises 4 Ph.D. students and 30 master’s students. Moreover, he has delivered over 90 invited talks in the field of waste management and renewable energy at various institutions and conferences. His publication record includes more than 115 peer-reviewed international journal articles and 7 book chapters and 2 books in the field of Energy and Environment.
